Zumba, Beach Body, Boot Camp, CrossFit, competitive walking, running, cycling....
Today there are SO many options for which form of movement you choose. Time and time again I hear people say "How long until that fad dies out?"
With all the talk of a "fad exercise program this", "running program that"...how do you know which is right for you?
That's a trick question.
Because if it is something you will stick to and enjoy, then it isn't a fad, it is just something you do now.
You see, it is all about consistency. It doesn't matter how you do it, if you are active and moving every.single.day then what you choose to do is going to work.
What will make you stick with it?
Having a friend hold you accountable?
Paying for a trainer or class in advance and not wanting to lose the money?
Making a post on social media so now the world is holding you accountable?
Setting a goal with a deadline - run a 5K, compete in a local powerlifting competition, commit to an activity where you raise money for a charitable cause.
What will you enjoy?
Hate sweating? It's probably best to avoid hot yoga.
Love the outdoors? Check out your local hiking trails.
Love socializing? Check out your local group fitness classes (at the local gym, CrossFit Affiliate, Orange Theory Fitness, Barre 3...all great choices)
There are so many options but the only way to figure out what works for you is to try. A huge pet peeve of mine is when I so often hear people say they can't do something yet...THEY DIDN'T EVEN FREAKING TRY?
Yes, it is scary.
Yes, you are afraid of looking like the weirdo that doesn't know what you're doing.
Yes, it is uncomfortable.
Here's the harsh reality.
It is more scary and uncomfortable fighting with a potential health issue that can easily be avoided if you just MOVE a little.
Clearly this is a topic that gets me heated. You want to know why? Because I have been there, I have tried everything in the fitness world. I have looked like a weirdo, I have had some great experiences and some not so great ones. And you know what...through all of that I found what works for me, what I am likely to stick with and what I enjoy.
So, go find the fad workout programs, find them all, try them ALL. And I promise, you will likely find something that feels juuuuust right.
