Tips for Staying on Track

Picture this....It's Monday....Fresh start Monday where you decide this is the week you are going to do it... FOR REAL.


New diet, new rules, NEW YOU, right? You spent the weekend meal planning and psyching yourself up and you know that this time is will be different.


The week goes on and Wednesday hits, you forgot your lunch, work is way more stressful than normal and to make matters worse, your its a coworkers birthday and now there are COOKIES in the office...the horror!


Needless to say your lunch consisted of a dozen cookies washed down by overdoing it with drinks at happy hour and....ahhh screw it, you will just start fresh next week.


Sound familiar?


GIRL- Been there, done that. WE ALL HAVE. No shame at all.


But think about this- What if it doesn't have to be like that?


What if you could enjoy a cookie guilt free? And be totally ok with forgetting your lunch because you have the tools to order from the local deli and it won't feel like you are completely falling off the wagon. And then come dinner, you just pick up right where you left off and you feel like you OWN THE WORLD.



But, just as losing weight won't happen over night, neither will learning and applying the tools necessary to navigate rocky waters full of cookies and messed up plans. You need to practice a little patience and trust the process.


No matter what the goal is, success won't come overnight. There needs to be small yet consistent steps in the right direction to hit the target. It's the accumulation of your choices that lead you down the path of success. Trying to rush the process or allowing one thing to completely derail the entire process just sets you right back to where you started....time and time again.


Here are a few tips to remember when you find yourself on the brink of saying "Screw It"

- Have a mantra. Your go-to saying when you find yourself stressed and ready to throw in the towel

- Take 5 deep breaths. Seriously. Breath deep and allow yourself to become centered. The deep breaths will give you time to pause, see a little more clearly and realize what choices you are about to make.

- Go for a walk. 5 minutes is all it takes to get out of your head and focused on the bigger picture.

- Distract yourself. Answer an email, do some push ups, make a phone call. Change your focus in the moment you are feeling weak and chances are when you come back to that moment in a few minutes you might make a different choice.

-Start a "No-negotiating" Policy in all areas of your life. How easy it can be to decide you will go to the gym for the 4pm class, then it comes time to leave you decide "I will just go to the 5 and sit and scroll through social media a little while longer." Or you penciled in time for yourself to take 20 minutes and do something that fills your cup but you decide to quickly do "just one more" load of laundry and now you only have 5 minutes for yourself. All these negotiations you are allowing yourself can also be seen your relationship with food. If you try to avoid the negotiating and stick to a plan, it can have a positive impact in your entire life

-Learn how to work in the foods you love. I am human. I like snacks. If I try to stick to a no-snack nutrition plan, all I want to do is snack. Instead, learning to eat in a way that I enjoy all the time, not just some of the time, allows for moments where I slip up and don't stay on track 100%. But then when it's time to eat again, I am able to pick right back up where I left off, guilt free because it's all part of the plan! Work in the foods you love and have a plan that works for you.
